Chair, Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is widely regarded as one of the leading economics departments in Asia. The Department welcomes and recruits the best students from all over the world. We give them rigorous training in economic theory, analytical skills, and applications. We are proud to say that many of our graduates are now occupying prestigious positions in the academia, corporations, and governments.

Currently, the Department offers three undergraduate programmes and four postgraduate programmes, which are

• B.S.Sc. in Economics
• CUHK-Tsinghua University Dual Undergraduate Degree Programme in Economics (in a double-degree programme offered jointly with Tsinghua University)
• B.Sc. in Global Economics and Finance (jointly offered by the Department of Economics and the Department of Finance)
• M.Phil. in Economics
• Ph.D. in Economics
• M.Sc. in Economics
• Dual Master’s Degree in Applied Economics (CUHK) & Social and Economic Policy (Northwestern University) 

Our pedagogy extends beyond classroom learning. Students in undergraduate programmes are required to showcase their research findings at the annual signature event – project exhibition; while the students in postgraduate programmes are required to carry out independent research at different degrees of originality and intensity. They also participate in weekly guest seminars, company visits, industry forums, and career workshops.
