Chair, Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is widely regarded as one of the leading economics departments in Asia. The Department welcomes and recruits the best students from all over the world. We give them rigorous training in economic theory, analytical skills, and applications. We are proud to say that many of our graduates are now occupying prestigious positions in academia, corporations, and governments.

Currently, the Department offers three undergraduate programmes and five postgraduate programmes, which are

• B.S.Sc. in Economics
• CUHK-Tsinghua University Dual Undergraduate Degree Programme in Economics (in a double-degree programme offered jointly with Tsinghua University)
• B.Sc. in Global Economics and Finance (jointly offered by the Department of Economics and the Department of Finance)
• M.Phil. in Economics
• Ph.D. in Economics
• M.Sc. in Economics
• M.Sc. in Digital Economy and Artificial Intellegence
• Dual Master’s Degree in Applied Economics (CUHK) & Social and Economic Policy (Northwestern University) 

Our pedagogy extends beyond classroom learning. Each year, undergraduate students present their research findings to hundreds of local secondary students at the CUHK Economics Project Exhibition – the department’s annual signature event; while postgraduate students are required to carry out independent research at different degrees of originality and intensity. They also participate in weekly guest seminars, company visits, industry forums, and career workshops.
