Our Students Awarded CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for Excellence 2024/25

Awardees of the CUHK Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships for Excellence

The Department of Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is proud to announce that two of our students have been named recipients of the CUHK Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for Excellence 2024/25, one of the University’s most prestigious honours. Out of eight awardees across CUHK, Andrew Cheung Leung Wai (second from the left in the photo above), a second-year student in the CUHK–Tsinghua University Dual Undergraduate Degree Programme in Economics, and Katie Tang Wing-lam (forth from the left in the photo above), a second-year student in Global Economics and Finance, were recognised for their outstanding academic achievements, leadership, and service.

Andrew, who studied in the UK from the age of 14, has earned multiple academic awards, gained hands-on experience as a Junior Research Assistant, and completed an internship with the Swire Group, where he was seconded to Cathay Pacific’s Chengdu Outport. Katie has excelled in student leadership roles, including serving as Marketing Officer for the Society of Global Economics and Finance and contributing actively to AIESEC, an international youth organisation.

Since the 2021–22 academic year, the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for Excellence have been awarded annually to eight exceptional full-time undergraduate students, irrespective of the admission channel and residency. Each recipient receives a non-renewable award of HK$50,000. The scholarships recognise both academic and non-academic accomplishments, including entrance results, first-term academic results, language proficiency, distinguished leadership, commitment to service, and awards attained.

The Department warmly congratulates Andrew and Katie on this remarkable achievement.
