CUHK Economics

The Department of Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was established in 1963, coinciding with the founding year of CUHK.

Economics is a science that analyses human behaviour within various economic contexts, extending beyond just business environments. Economic activities, such as production, consumption, asset transactions, international trade, transport, housing, and education, are playing a predominant role in our society. These interconnected activities are complex, making them challenging for non-specialists to comprehend, and Economics provides a systematic and scientific framework for analysing them. Following the model of the leading global universities, our department is housed within the Faculty of Social Science.

We take pride in our research strength, particularly in the Chinese economy, where we have contributed significant academic advancements. We are also committed to nurturing the talents of our students, preparing them to excel in diverse economic settings.

In the recently released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, CUHK Economics and Econometrics ranked 37th globally and 8th in Asia.
